Vineyards

Our vineyards cover about 16 hectares and are spread all around our house.

We are located in Le Caggiole, an area extraordinarily suited for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Thanks to the exposure, with a northern-facing slope and a less scorching climate, we are able to manage even the driest years and the effects of climate change.
Walking between the rows, another fundamental element becomes clear: the wind. The constant presence of breezes helps keep temperatures in check, especially in the summer.
The personality of our wines depends on our grapes, grown in unique vineyards that leave their character in every berry.

Vigneto Fossatone e Vigneto Campaccio

These two vineyards represent the historic heart of our winery and were once one single vineyard.

When our family acquired the estate, an inter-farm road was built, and the two vineyards were split.
The ancient vine growing system came from the Fascist era, with rows spaced 5 meters apart, leaving room in between for mixed cultivation of wheat and cereals.
However, after World War II, the vineyards were densified, giving rise to the current training system, with a 2.5-meter spacing.
Most of the plants are over 95 years old, and at least a third are ungrafted, features that make the wines produced from these vineyards unique.
The varieties are mixed: 90% is made up of ancient Sangiovese, Prugnolo gentile, with the remaining portion divided between Mammolo and Canaiolo.
From these two vineyards, we produce our “Cru” Vino Nobile di Montepulciano labels, each named after the vineyard they come from.

Vigneto Maturato

The main variety of this vineyard is Pulcinculo (“flea in the ass” a local biotype of Grechetto), which we use to produce our Maturato wine.
This is a vineyard dedicated exclusively to white grape varieties, planted after a mass selection carried out from our old Nobile vineyards.

Vigneto Macerina

It is our oldest vineyard.

It was planted in 1918 by our family to commemorate a relative who died during World War I.
There’s more: all the vines are ungrafted.
The ability to avoid using rootstocks is possible thanks to the sandy richness of the soil.
From these absolutely unique plants, we produce our “Vigne Vecchie” label.
